USA, Rockefeller, influenced League of Nations

 

After faking its own Geneva convention in 1925, the US began buying into the League of Nations the way trust companies buy controlling interest in stock corporations. US and UK created pressure to ban non-addictive leaf drugs liable to compete with tobacco--and rumored help brown people win boxing championships and resist imperialist invaders. 

Sino-American collaboration at pressuring the whole world into at-gunpoint prohibitionism had unexpected consequences--China's collapse into communist anarchy, Balkan Wars and WW1. Australians and Canadians were bound by the narcotics-exporting UK to fight Austro-Hungary-Germany and their Ottoman Allies, including Turkey. The US sent Herbert Hoover "over there" as Food Czar & spectator of WW1. Soon U.S. bank loans were endangered when Russians killed their prohibitionist Czar.  Even then the USA never went to war against Germany's poppy-farming Ottoman Allies. Australia and Canada did, suffered terrible losses and were not amused. The US was an "Associate" power, not one of  "The Allies," and never warred against opium-exporting Turkey. U.S. rejection of the Versailles Treaty and League of Nations Charter--both containing the prohibitionist Article 23 inserted at UK and America's insistence--brought those Dominions no cheer. Then again, Americans already HAD their own prohibitionist Article 23 packaged into separate Armistice agreements.  

Much propaganda effort went into ramping up prohibition of basically everything except American tobacco. Women and children victimized in the Balkan opium wars were retasked as poster-child models to shift postwar blame and shame to the Moslems. The League of Nations--like the Hague before it--became the Republican Party's enforcer of ever-expanding Christian prohibitionist missions. To cast poppy and non-tobacco products in the worst possible light, League publications were induced to journalistically associate white slavery and "drugs" that were legal commodities in vast Ottoman and Muslim regions by mentioning them side-by-side. This somewhat insulated the USA and China from blame for delivering war to those regions. The above audit sheet is but the tip of a large financial iceberg. These documents are available to the public at Geneva and from other League member states. Yet when was the last time you heard ANY of these taboo subjects mentioned? 

Thousands of  pages of League documendacities were assembled to cloak the US in white-sheet benevolence and stir up fear and hatred of overrated flowers and leaves--some of them not very different from coffee or tea. This onslaught, kept up for 14 years, finally led Europe into another war. Yet throughout, League records in English and French smoothly elide mention of daily prohibition-related gunfights, Klan violence, bank failures, murders, executions, Tong wars, sea-battles, judicial appeals and extrajudicial killings that made postwar Prohibitionist America seem a madhouse compared to war-ravaged Europe. Europeans struggled and failed to collect war reparations from Germany--all the while struggling to evade repaying their war loans taken to finance what was, at bottom, the Chinese and Evangelistic American joint war-engendering Crusade we now explore. 

This Google Ngram shows English-language media clamor as the Great Depression resulted.

These German references to depressions reflect Chinese, US and UK "moral" panics. 

None of these things are accidental, as the record is about to show you. 

Good and bad books:  Fateful Hours--The Collapse of the Weimar Republic by Volker Ulrich. This is the second book I've read by this author, and the translator did an exceptional job.  The author, not so much. If you want a book that pretends Hitler was not a Christian Socialist, and where practically all information comes from whispered conversations among people who are NOT bankers, industrialists or financiers--a book that completely ignores League of Nations and Versailles treaty Article 23, and evades all possibility that prohibitionist America was manipulating the League to export Methodist White Terror hysteria--this book's for you. Concurrently I reread the main portions of Shirer's The Rise and Fall of  The Third Reich, and Taylor's The Origins of the Second World War. All three books suffer from similar defects. It is as though some taboo has induced the publishers to jump through hoops to elide awkward facts, much like the circus dogs described by Orwell--trained to turn somersaults without so much as a cracked whip. It would be remiss of me to not recommend U.S. economist Peter Temin's analyses of Crash and Depression situations.

Women and Children as War Hostages

 

1911 sixpenny novel a prequel to Harrison Act, Hague Convention, WW1, Versailles treaty and King Kong.

Traffic in women and children, Armenians: Numbers were murdered by savage Kurds against whom the Turkish soldiery afforded no protection. Little girls of nine or ten were sold to Kurdish brigands for a few piastres, and women were promiscuously violated. At Sivas an instance was related of a teacher in the Sivas Teachers’ College, a gentle, refined Armenian girl, speaking English, knowing music, attractive by the standards of any land, who was given in enforced marriage to the Beg of a neighboring Kurdish village, a filthy ragged ruffian three times her age, with whom she still has to live, and by whom she has borne a child. In the orphanage there maintained under American Relief auspices, there were one hundred and fifty “brides”, being girls, many of them of tender age, who had been living as wives in Moslem homes, and had been rescued. Of the female refugees among some seventy-five thousand repatriated from Syria and Mesopotamia, we were informed at Aleppo that forty percent are infected with venereal disease from the lives to which they have been forced. The [Page 847]women of this race were free from such diseases before the deportation. Mutilation, violation, torture and death have left their haunting memories in a hundred beautiful Armenian valleys; and the traveler in that region is seldom free from the evidence of this most colossal crime of all the ages. Yet, immunity from it all might have been purchased for any Armenian girl or comely woman by abjuring her religion and turning Moslem. Surely no faith has ever been put to harder test or has been cherished at greater cost.

So when were these stories formulated and sold? Here is a Google Ngram chart from Qing China's 1905 boycott of U.S. exports to enlist Uncle Sam as Pan-Asian Commissioner of Narcotics to the signing of the Versailles Treaty fastening Asian-American  prohibitionism onto the entire planet via its Article 23, and the League of Nations Charter Article 23. 

In 1911 Christian Russia invaded Persia to oust an American banker the Persian government had hired as Treasurer, to get that Byzantine exporter of opium solvent. One such measure was a tax on opium. Four months later the prohibition-addled Qing Dynasty itself was overthrown and fragmented in a bloody civil war, largely a result of its disastrous handling of the population's weakness for addictive flowers. Beheading, a popular local custom, saw to it that no opium--much less European morphine or other opiates--could land in Chinese ports. Most of the source opium for those was grown in the Balkan States extending westward from Greece to the Adriatic and north to Austria-Hungary and Switzerland. Lots more came from the Ottoman States from Turkey, across Armenia, Persia, to Afghanistan. Those populations suddenly-from October 1911 to winter 1912, found their dope exports blocked and proceeded to wage the Balkan wars so mysterious and surprising to the Office of the U.S. Department of State historians. 

While this was going on, Chinese and American agents pressured the Hague to draw up plans to make such prohibitionism permanent and global with everything from service pistols to artillery and bayonets. That is the tale we'll be unfolding by way of background for the wars and atrocities that foreshadowed the Great War through which an Austrian Catholic youth named Adolf Hitler zigzagged before the Versailles Treaty and League of Nations made the banning of trade and production into a multinational corporate war industry. To this day, weavers of government fairytales such as Donald J Mabry, Janos Radvanyi, Douglas Clark Kinder, Richard B Craig, Bruce Michael Bagley, Rensselauer W. Lee III, Raphael Perl, Samuel I del Villar, José Luis Reyna and Gregory F. Treverton gather to justify armed invasion of South American democracies. For this they exploit the brutality committed against women and children in that economically-backward, superstitious region, as a stalking-mare for the initiation of deadly force. Their propaganda book, recently covered in this column, is cynically dedicated

Good software: Google's Ngram generator is the tool I prayed for for years.(link) With it you too can visually track the way moral panics were sown and spread through all media to create red herrings, con games, artful dodges, marketing sprees and the most appalling lies imaginable as instruments of dysinformation. Here is a chart you can make for that "good" drug American companies export to this day to those countries whose native leaves they eradicate with poisons, helicopters, infiltrators, occupation forces gunships, aerial bombardment and bribery. These facts are visible thanks to sumptuous ad budgets spent during the interval between the so-called Boxer Revolt and the election of Hitler's National Socialism to totalitarian domination of Germany, then Europe.

From The Hague to Wilson to Hitler, 1912

 

Yes there was a Crash and Depression in 1921 just as in 1914 when the Harrison Act, Income Tax and WW1 obtruded upon the nation's notice, and in 1907 when prohibition mania went viral.

President Woodrow Wilson, himself a temperance man, vetoed the Volstead Act instituting fines, imprisonments, asset-forfeiture confiscations, padlocking and gunplay with live ammo in the War against Beer and the Demon Rum. Congress, by then a nest of Republican National Socialist and Progressive politicians, overrode the veto. The Senate proceeded to step on Wilson's beloved Treaty of Versailles and Charter of the League of Nations--both of which delegated substance prohibition powers to the League in their Articles 23. Senator Lodge wisely wrote: (link)

4. The United States reserves to itself exclusively the right to decide what questions are within its domestic jurisdiction and declares that all domestic and political questions relating wholly or in part to its internal affairs, including immigration, labor, coastwise traffic, the tariff, commerce, the suppression of traffic in women and children, and in opium and other dangerous drugs, and all other domestic questions, are solely within the jurisdiction of the United States and are not under this treaty to be submitted in any way either to arbitration or to the consideration of the Council or of the Assembly of the League of Nations, or any agency thereof, or to the decision or recommendation of any other power.

Lodge's reservations do mention Article 22 mandating native races back under colonial rule--just not German rule--"and the prohibition of abuses." Republicans reiterated Monroe's doctrine and convinced voters Wilson had promised to keep them out of war then bayoneted them in the back--the way Hitler claimed Germany's "November criminals" had backstabbed the Reich. It has only recently come to light that the USA's Hellfire Boys lustily fired tens of thousands of shells of poison gas into German lines, perhaps even the poison gas that put corporal Hitler in the hospital.(link)  

Lodge's reservations do NOT mention Article 295 of the Treaty of Versailles, whereby ratification of the Versailles pact meant accepting the January 1912 Hague Opium Convention--as quietly amended--by early ratifiers.  Dutch coca farmers in Java and Sumatra, already trapped, saw in Article 295 a chance to ensnare Uncle Sam into at least paying the League to enforce U.S. prohibitionism worldwide. After all, the ink was barely dry on the relatively sensible Hague antiopium convention when American prohibitionists rushed to amend it to include addictive morphine, harmless marijuana and nonaddictive cocaine in the package.(link) This was afoot, AFTER Germany and the Netherlands had trustingly signed the original, while Archduke Ferdinand was touring Australia, the nation with the world's highest per-capita cocaine consumption. Since nowhere near the ratifications needed to make binding the original, and fresh American demands had by July 1914 completely alienated many signers of the original and uncommitted alike, the text was again amended with the intention of making it ex-post-facto binding on as many as could be induced to ratify the Americanized version. 

This bait-and-switch alienated Peru, Bolivia, Japan, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Chile, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland, El Salvador, Brazil, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and many others into having nothing to do with the "convention".  Finally, on June 18, 1914, shortly before the Archduke's ship docked at Trieste on the Adriatic, Italy became the 11th power to ratify the convention. Ten days later the Archduke and his lady were shot dead in Sarajevo, after over two years of economic depression and war in the opium-producing Balkan States occasioned by Revolutionary China's absolute ban on importation of opium.(link)  The next ratification came from the frightened Netherlands government the day after the Archduke Ferdinand couple were killed. War broke out the day President Wilson announced corporate income tax returns would be open to public inspection.  A few more ratifications were voted during the duress of the resulting global drug war.  Finally the the Versailles "Peace" treaty frogmarched its signers into automatic ratification of the altered and amended omnibus Hague convention shortly before the Dutch legation leapt at the chance to drag the USA into the mess Teddy Roosevelt had dragged it into. Government History teachers act shocked and surprised when confronted with these facts. I myself was shocked to discover there are no legible images of signed January 1912 opium agreements to be viewed online. The ones I found were all the size of postage stamps and absolutely illegible. What I did find in an American antidrug prohibition propaganda book was this admission, with gratuitous backhanded speculation on the abstainers' motives: 

The antidrug meetings accomplished little, however. The 1911-1912 conferees, because of international rivalries over drug-generated revenue, failed to conclude a treaty regulating narcotics other than opium. (Donald J Mabry, The Latin American Narcotics Trade and U.S. National Security, 1989 p. 18)

America's ban on liquor created a hot market for ether, weed, stimulants and narcotics alike, many of them easily transported to floating Rum Row supply ships by war surplus submarines. Germany's huge share of that market was, readers have seen, while a major cause of WW1 also a handy source of income enabling Germany to pay blackmail in what Wilson aide Joseph Tumulty called "the reduction of Germany to a slave state."(link)  The next move was to pack a League Advisory Committee on the Traffic in Opium--and whatever else Americans deemed Satanic--with European drug dealers and pharma representatives. This, as we shall see in upcoming chapters, would result in transfer of about 10% of Germany's share of that market to competing manufactured drug exporting countries before triggering WW2. 

Anyone able to find evidence that the Hague convention signed in January 1912 suggested people be shot over drugs other than opium is invited to comment and indicate the evidence.

All of the specious arguments in favor of these illegal, moronic and cowardly evasions that I have studied since 1977 are there. Pravda sold for $25 a copy near where I lived in Austin. The Union of Confused Scientists, Mobilization for Surrender, Greenpiss, Freeze and Surrender, Federation of Scientist Impersonators and Physicians for Socialist Irresponsibility are well-represented in Ankrit's recycled copypasta.

Hitler On Front Page, 1931

 

Less than a week after Germany signed the Drug Limitation Convention, financial collapse was everywhere and Hitler got front page billing in a New York daily paper.(link). 

Nor was this a one-off fluke. Germany's anti-Versailles Treaty Führer made p2 of a Connecticut daily that same day.(link) NOT shown were the real culprits: President Herbert Hoover, Narcotics Commissioner Harry Anslinger, Rep. Hamilton Fish Jr. and the League of Nations Opium Advisory Committee. Also blameworthy were ordinary citizens, duped into believing that hemp and coca leaves can produce addiction, that banning production and trade causes economic stability, and that even though poppy opiates can cause addiction, pointing loaded guns at plant-using people is reasonable, non-violent and conducive to peace, prosperity and safety. 

None of these individuals caused the German collapse of July 1931.

The cause of Hitler's sudden success was clearly spelled out in black and white in three relevant documents in 1919. Yet when was the last time you saw the Covenant of the League of Nations or Treaty of Versailles mentioned as a cause of  banking panics, stock market crashes, recessions and mass unemployment? The Covenant of the League of Nations says, in its Article 23, that Members of the League: ... (c) will entrust the League with the general supervision over the execution of agreements with regard to the traffic in women and children, and the traffic in opium and other dangerous drugs;... (link)

The Treaty of Versailles Germany was forced to sign in 1919 says the same thing in its Article 23, 

The third document directly relevant to Germany's situation in the latter half of July 1931 is the National Socialist Workers Party platform penned by Hitler in 1920, about a month after Germany signed the Versailles surrender treaty.  It demanded: 

2. We demand equality of the German people with all other nations, the abrogation of the peace treaties of Versailles and Saint-Germain. 

Abrogating the Versailles treaty would abjure Germany's prior submission to having its chemical and pharma industries controlled and hog-tied by organizations cleverly infiltrated by America's Methodist White Terror. Germans could plainly see that America's Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches were so enthralled with absolute prohibitionism through compelled abstinence that it was only a matter of time till a way was found to ban beer in Germany.  The entire world economy lay in ruins because of American-exported laws making felonies of voluntary production and trade!

In 1930 Germany and America, voters began casting ballots demanding relief from substance prohibition laws.(link)

A Maryland Senator had shown that prohibition enforcement had in nine years killed 800 of their own people--including cops, agents, customs and Treasury personnel.(link) The rate at which enforcers were being killed had grown exponentially since 1929, and every newspaper edition added fresh violent deaths to the count. Americans were as much the victims of their own 18th Amendment as Germans were victims of the Versailles pact. Who knows? By electing Hitler, German voters might lead by example and show Americans how to escape the clutches of their own dry Amendment and ever-expanding drug laws. Nobody else was offering that alternative.

Twenty-seven years ago, when I began publishing explanations of how laws banning production and trade cause economic collapse, people were puzzled, bewildered, shocked that anyone could even suggest such a thing. A search on "prohibition laws and Economic collapse" nowadays returns some 180 million hits--nearly all of them irrelevant clutter or deceptive chaff. But I'm still here, still voting libertarian. 

Good reading: The Book of Why by Judea Pearl and Dana MacKenzie.(link) It turns out that in 1981  statisticians still had no reliable tools for handling causality. One of the examples the authors take to task is the question of whether cigarette smoking does or does not cause cancer. Leaving aside the popular myth that cigarettes are addictive (opiates are, tobacco isn't), this book trots out ordinary banal facts carefully suppressed for so long that they appear startling in contrast to the ignorance and omissions we were conditioned to take for granted. All through the 1920s and 30s cigarette ads permeated papers and magazines. Like politicians today, cigarette factories pointed to their nearly identical competitors as likely culprits for coughs, sore throats and discomfort. The idea that inhaling free radicals and Polonium 210 could ever EVER do you actual harm was as alien and unheard-of as the perishable thought that making possession of beer a five-year felony with a year's pay fine might somehow harm the economy. * * *
